FASHION/TECHNOLOGY: FUTURE THREADZ (SUPERSUPER! VOL 2 #004)

Ever dreamed of wearing a GIF T-Shirt – IRL? How about a jumper that can ‘reblog’ images? Well, wearable technology is becoming a reality – the future is now! It’s time to cast your old (BORING) non-tech clothes aside, and get ready to make 2k12 style history with your very own future threadz!

Okay, so the phrase ‘wearable technology’ might initially conjure up images of clunky cyborg armour and hover boots, but trust us, there are now all sorts of ways being developed to give clothes that ultra-tech edge – as style meets science, smart garms are no longer a sci-fi nerd’s pipe dream! FASHION: ‘SIMPLY RED’ (STYLED SHOOT) (SUPERSUPER! VOL 2 #004)

So you think blondes have more fun, do you? WRONG – it’s 2k12, so it’s flame-haired fitties’ time for some serious editorial style shine. Who will be YOUR carrot-topped inspiration though? Classic-era Lindsay Lohan? Prince Harry? UK model Karen Elson (beloved of late by Roberto Cavalli) – or even this issue’s cover star, Alex Rose? Guys/girls: reach for that dye, or if you’re naturally ginger, consider yourself #blessed to be one of the chosen few! Read the rest of this entry

CULTURE/ART/MUSIC: SLIMEPUNK (SUPERSUPER! VOL 2 #004)

There’s a new Internet meme on the horizon. It’s thick. It’s green. It OOZES. It’s… slimepunk! Starting off as a trolling game on Facebook and shaped by ‘likes’, #slimepunk is set to take 2k12 – and your Tumblr page – by storm…

While #seapunk gave us turquoise hair, idyllic ocean scenes and an almost disturbing love of dolphins last year, slimepunk is all about getting greener, grimier and naaastier – think noxious colours, polluted sounds and, above all, LETHAL DOSES OF SLIME. Read the rest of this entry

FASHION: TOM NIJHUIS INTERVIEW (SUPERSUPER! VOL 2 #004)

Getting fashion-types everywhere talking with his hardcore gabber dance-inspired /1995 collection last year, up-and-coming Dutch designer Tom Nijhuis is now cutting his teeth interning at Louis Vuitton (fancy!). As he considers a 2k12 MA in London (YES PLEASE!), we get up close and personal…

SS: With my designs, I try to…

TN: Push the boundaries of womenswear. I like the rules in menswear, and apply them to women a little bit. It’s an ongoing thing in my designs. Read the rest of this entry

CULTURE/MUSIC: LIL INTERNET INTERVIEW (SUPERSUPER! VOL 2 #001)

When NYC-based DJ/producer/director LIL INTERNET isn’t working on his PURE NRG rave music, hanging with Gucci Mane or running Karma Loop TV, he’s producing remixes and directing videos for the likes of Kanye and Diplo. How does he find the time to do it all? We find out!

SS: Listening to your music makes me feel like I’m in ‘90s Ibiza wearing ten plastic whistles and a face full of neon paint. So… is rave back?

LI: For me, rave never left. I’ve been a raver since I was 13. I went to London with my parents and stumbled across Cyberdog, and it changed my life. I bought mixtapes and fell in love with a girl with purple cyber dreads and decided that THIS IS WHO I WANT TO BE. I’ve had very transcendent experiences at raves – maybe once a year I get THE FEELING, when your hair stands on end and REALITY MELTS, just for a second. Read the rest of this entry

TECHNOLOGY: APP OF THE MONTH: ‘HONEY, IT’S ME!’ (SUPERSUPER! VOL 2 #004)

Everybody wants somebody sometimes – and with Valentines Day coming up, it’s understandable to want a special someone in your life. Of course, it’s 2012, and a lot of people just don’t have time for a full-time gf – but that’s where this app comes in! Developed by ingenious programmers/matchmakers in South Korea, ‘Honey, It’s Me!’ lets you carry around your very own hottie on your iPhone all day long! You get four daily phonecalls from your new babe, who comes with 100 recorded messages like “Time for breakfast!” and “Good night, sweet dreams” – aww! Of course, you’ll have to speak Korean to know what she’s saying – but the language of love is universal, right? #sorrySiri

MUSIC: FADE TO MIND INTERVIEW (SUPERSUPER! VOL 2 #002)

Operating as both DJ Kingdom’s creative brainchild and Night Slugs’ sister label, record label/club night Fade To Mind already boasts names like Nguzunguzu and Total Freedom.

SS: So Kingdom, you’re obviously a well-established DJ in your own right… what prompted you to start your own label?

K: My friend DJ Prince William was asking me about it for a while. As time went on, it seemed more and more necessary – especially since we felt that Nguzunguzu’s incredible musical output needed a proper home – and we decided to start the label together. Prince thought of the name ‘Fade to Mind’ – it was his BBM status for a while, and just stuck. Read the rest of this entry

CULTURE/MUSIC: TOP8 INTERVIEW (SUPERSUPER! VOL 2 #001)

NYC-based club night TOP8 is “a place for friends”, where tweens, teens and not-so-teens relive their most colourful adolescent fantasies. With cosplay encouraged and dress-up expected, TOP8 is the place to stay young forever…

SS: How did TOP8 get started?

ER: Katy Perry inspired it – we wanted to live the ‘Teenage Dream’. TOP8 is the place to get caught smoking weed in the bathroom after kissing your first tranny. Read the rest of this entry

MUSIC: NGUZUNGUZU INTERVIEW (SUPERSUPER! VOL 2 #001)

This LA-based production duo turned 1999 R&B jam ‘The Boy is Mine’ (Brandy and Monica) into an angelic continuous harp epic on their appropriately titled Perfect Lullaby mixtape. Now back with a brooding, dark mystery inside the dance tracks of their latest release Timesup, Nguzunguzu reveal the secret behind stripper music, and how to ward off evil water spirits.

SS: Where does the name ‘NGUZUNGUZU’ come from? Exotic…

DP: The Solomon Islands. We’re water themed!

AM: It’s a figurehead that wards off evil water spirits, usually put at the front of a canoe when going to hunt. We like the phonetics. NGUZUNGUZU – looks good, don’t it? Read the rest of this entry
