VIRAL STYLE #12 (CREATOR’S PROJECT 21.06.13)
Viral Style: Vintage Computer Graphic-Inspired Sportswear And Spray-on Clothing
A weekly roundup of what’s happening at the intersection of tech and fashion.
MENSWEAR COLLECTION OF THE WEEK
London: It’s been a rollercoaster week of front row etiquette, parties, occasional fashion shows but London Collections Men is sadly over for another season 😦 Our highlight of the season though? It had to be Christopher Kane’s futuristic S/S14 collection (above), which shaped inspirations from 3D vectors and retro computer graphics into cool portraits on a range of sporty separates. Neon body mapping—what’s not to love? We also loved Shaun Samson’s metallic foil streetwear and a rejuvinated Christopher Shannons fresh take on 90s clubwear looks.
SPRAY-ON GARMS OF THE WEEK
Getting dressed can be a real drag, but thankfully things could soon be getting easier, via spray-on clothing. Over the past few years, a company called Fabrican has been developing an innovative new liquid fabric aerosol, which sprays on to instantly create non-stick clothing that can even be taken off and washed—and now, the first cans are ready to be sold to consumers. Fast fashion aside, experts are hoping to use the product in everything from emergency services to aircraft manufacture and environmental damage control.
BITCOIN JOINT OF THE WEEK
If you’re clued into the ever-growing Bitcoin hype and have some of that (online) dollah burning a hole in your (digital) pocket, prepare to get excited—now you can actually spend them, in real life. Next time you’re out for a drink, head down to an Individual Pub (UK only), which are now accepting the virtual currency—there’s even one in Hackney! Simply tell the bartender you’re paying with Bitcoins, then scan the QR code on the till screen with a Bitcoin smartphone app. Easy.
HAIRY LEG TIGHTS OF THE WEEK
Hey bbz, we know how it is. It’s summer, you want to get your legs out—but no one wants to deal with all those guys on the commute staring, right? No sweat, just get yourself a pair of these hairy-leg tights. This shot was originally posted on the Chinese micro-blogging site Sina Welbo—and even though some are sceptical that it’s been Photoshopped, you can’t deny it’s a hair-raisingly effective idea.
FLYING WAITER-DRONES OF THE WEEK
As technology continues to develop, our lives are being made easier and easier—but bad news for waiters, looks like their jobs might be in danger of getting axed. A sushi chain has incorporated the world’s first ever flying restaurant trays, using RC drone quadcopters to deliver dishes right to your table. The remote-controlled iTrays are powered by wi-fi and iPad software, and come built with four propellers and two cameras to ensure a smooth flight for your food.
