DOG LOVERS VS GIVENCHY (LOGO.EC 07.10.12)
Fashion campaigns often gain notoriety for being controversial. Whether it’s for being overly sexual, à la Sophie Dahl in that YSL Opium ad, or containing blatant narcotics references, as seen in Sisley’s Fashion Junkie posters, using the shock factor in brand canvassing can lead to widespread complaints, or even an all-out ban…
However, sex and drugs aside, this is the first time we’ve seen an outcry against the portrayal of a, er, dog in a campaign.’Dog Lovers Against Givenchy’ have formed a ‘barking’ petition against the label for their The Rottweiler Lover ad, depicting images of last years Rottweiler-inspired line, as well as Ricardo Tischi with a bloodied nose accessorising with a full-sized Rottweiler.
“This petition is about reaching Givenchy & letting them know how angry, disappointed & disgusted we feel about their snarling Rottweiler ‘collection’ designed by Riccardo Tisci… NO dog regardless of breed should be portrayed in this manner.”
