FASHION: LCM: CHRISTOPHER SHANNON (WHO’S JACK ONLINE 17.06.12)

As the debut London Collections: Men weekend continues, one of the most talked-about names at Saturday’s shows was Liverpudlian wunderkind Christopher Shannon, who presented his S/S13 collection.

An MA graduate of Central Saint Martins, Shannon is still fairly new on the fashion scene, but has quickly rocketed to international recognition with his innovative, ever-surprising “refined scallyism” streetwear designs.

Shannon fans weren’t disappointed by his new collection, which promises a vibrant, upbeat approach to S/S13.

The designer cited tribal tourism and “stoned camping holidays” as key looks behind the line, as evident in such details as the exotic, fringed panelling setting off neutral-toned shorts and shirts. There was also an abundance of tourist-esque backpacks on display, in addition to satchels from his recent collaboration with The Cambridge Satchel Company.

“I love the summer collection to always feel upbeat and a bit holiday”, says Shannon. “There were a few things I wanted to go back to and rework in better fabrics with a neater cut. There’s quite a lot of embellishment going on, that’s quite giddy for me. SS13 has touches of Peter Blake and British folk with quite boysy sports pieces.”
