FASHION: FACEGEAR TREND (SUPERSUPER! VOL 1 #22)
What with Facebook, FaceTime, Faceparty, North Face or Rod Stewart and The Faces, it’s hard to argue against the fact that we’re currently living in an extremely ‘face’ driven society. Indeed, with every noun in the dictionary now having been given the ‘face’ prefix at some stage, applying things to our own faces seems like the obvious next step.
It couldn’t have come at a more appropriate time either. With full facial veils having been banned in France (thankfully, the UK has had the good sense not to take similar measures… for now), it’s time for us all to mobilize ourselves and take a stand for this most basic of human rights – to decorate our faces as we see fit!
HOW TO WORK THE LOOK
Whether you’re a rudeboy looking for that essential winter balaclava (Rick Owens has some fabulous pieces to this end), a clubber looking for a full veil to wear down to Endurance, or even an indie boy looking for some Is Tropical ‘hidden face chic’, there’s something here for everyone! Bound for a car-park rave in Hackney? Why not try placing a wrought-wire sculpture of an eye… over your eye? On your way to your Mum’s for dinner? Shake things up by gluing diamante gems to your eyebrows and tying a tiger-print scarf over the bottom half of your face (girls should feel free to give this one a go too)! The potential is endless!
Hats have been done. Makeup is over. Hair has been exhausted… this one just might be a keeper!
FACE, brainchild of David Toro and Solomon Chase, is a brand dedicated to all things face gear! Have a look if you like the sound of plaited bindis and reflective, glow-in-the-dark eyebrows – and let’s face it, who doesn’t?
This site has a huge range of crafty bits and pieces to make your own fabulous face gear with, if you’re a dab hand at making things with crafty bits and pieces.
